রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে ইসরায়েলকে দেয়া স্বীকৃতি স্থগিতের পক্ষে রায় দিল ফিলিস্তিন ন্যাশনাল কাউন্সিল। সোমবার, ভোটাভুটির পর পরিষদের তরফ থেকে আসে এ সিদ্ধান্ত।

কাউন্সিল জানায়, স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে ফিলিস্তিনকে স্বীকৃতি না দেয়া পর্যন্ত স্থগিত থাকবে ইসরায়েলের স্বীকৃতিও। স্বীকৃতি স্থগিতে প্রেসিডেন্ট মাহমুদ আব্বাসকে আহ্বান জানিয়েছে কাউন্সিল। সেই সাথে পূর্ব জেরুজালেমকে ফিলিস্তিনের রাজধানী হিসেবে মর্যাদা দেয়ার দাবি তোলা হয়েছে। গেল ডিসেম্বরে, যুক্তরাষ্ট্র– জেরুজালেমকে একতরফা ইসরায়েলের রাজধানী হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়ার প্রতিবাদে সিদ্ধান্তটি নিলো ফিলিস্তিন। ১৯৯৩ সালে অসলো চুক্তি অনুসারে, ইসরায়েলকে রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছিল ফিলিস্তিন।
